Title: The Cultural Competent Clinician
Speaker: Stacey Roberts M.Ed. CCC-SLP

Abstract:  This presentation will focus on providing SLPs with techniques and various approaches that will increase the clinician’s cultural awareness as it relates to the workplace. Participants will be given strategies for handling cultural differences or conflicts in the workplace, insight on strategizing what tests are culturally appropriate and tips to promote understanding of other cultural and socioeconomic status perspectives.

 

Learning Objectives:

As a result of this course, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between other cultural and socioeconomic status perspectives
- Distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate responses to cultural/social
differences
- Extend awareness of our individual and workplace cultural/social class norms
and how they shape our beliefs and behaviors
- Identify what tests are culturally appropriate
- Summarize how to properly handle cultural differences or conflicts

Speaker Biography:

Stacey Roberts M.Ed. CCC-SLP received both her bachelors and masters degree
from Valdosta State University and is the owner of a private practice facility, Explore to
Express Pediatric Speech Therapy. She specializes in feeding therapy, early
intervention and parent coaching.
